1a Demonstrating Content Knowledge and Pedagogy
During the webinar on diversifying classroom texts, I learned about the importance of representation in literature and how it can impact student engagement and learning. The presenter shared strategies for selecting and incorporating diverse texts into lesson plans and curriculums. I also gained insights on how to foster a classroom environment that values diversity and promotes inclusivity through literature. Overall, the webinar provided practical tools and resources that I can apply in my own teaching practice to ensure that my students are exposed to diverse perspectives and experiences.
1b Demonstrating Knowledge Of Students
Making a seating chart has proven to be a valuable tool for me in planning and preparing for my classroom. It allowed me to strategically place students in a way that creates a positive and productive learning environment. After noticing a talking issue among some of my students, I decided to rearrange the seating chart. This simple action had a big impact on the classroom dynamics, as it helped eliminate the issue and allowed for better focus and engagement during lessons. Overall, creating and regularly updating a seating chart has been a simple yet effective way for me to maximize learning outcomes for my students.
1c Setting Instructional Outcomes
Based on the data report using the Lexia Software, I can see that Student A in my first-grade class struggles with ELA, particularly with categorizing words. As a result, I worked with my co-op on how to best accommodate said student to best meet his needs. Together, she helped me to understand that student A does best with memory aids, having larger paragraphs read to him, and one-on-one instruction. Since the data report indicated that he just recently entered a first-grade comprehension level and struggles with word categorization, I have been focusing on teaching him vowel digraphs, which are a skill covered at the beginning of first grade that helps students differentiate different types of words. By using this data report, I was able to identify Student A’s learning needs and create a plan that addresses his challenges, which has allowed him to make progress in his ELA skills.
1d Demonstrating Knowledge of Resources
When I created learning stations for sh and ch digraphs, I ensured that they were aligned with the lesson objectives. This helped me to design a coherent instruction that was well-structured and easy to follow. By providing students with different activities at each station, I was able to cater to different learning styles and abilities, making the instruction more accessible to all students. The learning stations also allowed for more individualized instruction, which helped me to meet the needs of each student in the classroom.

1f Designing Students Assessments
Due to the flooding in my area, I had to rearrange my lesson plan, which included rescheduling the Proper Nouns test that was originally planned for Friday, April 5th. Although it was an unexpected change, it gave me an opportunity to start teaching the same topic again with a blank slate. This led me to restructure the test, and I realized that sometimes it’s okay to go back to square one. Overall, this experience taught me to be flexible and adaptable in my teaching approach.
